Sunset

Beautiful sunsets are superb subjects for producing pictures with rich, dramatic colour. And sunsets are surprisingly easy to take in. Sunsets are always popular subjects for pictures and are easy subjects since exposure is not critical. Your sunset pictures will be even more effective when you include foreground objects such as a tree, person, statue, or interesting building. These will photo graph as a silhouette against the sunset background.
  • For proper exposure, just go by the meter reading of the sky alone, but be careful not to include the sun in the metered area.
  • Or, while the sun is still above the horizon, use1 or 2 stops more exposure than a normal, sunlighted subject as determined by the formula on Daylight photography.
  • During afterglow, when the sun is below the horizon, try 4 to 6 stops more exposure than for a normal sunlighted scene.
  • To have more assurance of obtaining appealing, saturated colours, it's best to bracket the estimated exposure by plus and minus 1 stop.
  • Keep your lens sparkling clean because dust particles, fingerprints, etc., will cause considerable lens flare when you photograph Sunsets.
